About the Tribute

We are raising funds for a life size bronze sculpture of Washoe that will be gifted to the city and citizens of Ellensburg.

The sculpture will be the central focus of a 30' x 60' pocket park in historic downtown Ellensburg, on 5th Avenue, next to the old Liberty Theater.

Around the base of the statue, bronze plaques will share with the visitor a little about who Washoe was and some of the many significant events and accomplishments of her life.

Funds for the sculpture itself and for park construction will come from private donations.

Sculpture concept: A life-sized bronze statue of Washoe,
seated on a rock and signing "friend."

Our concept for "Friendship Park" is small, energy-efficient and low-maintenance. The 30' x 60' park will include plants with low-water requirements; recycled materials; and low-wattage, light pollution friendly (0% up lighting) fixtures to illuminate the statue and courtyard. The park design, plants, fixtures and furniture will complement Ellensburg's historic motif, visually enhance the downtown and create a comfortable place for people to gather or simply enjoy a quiet moment.
